"The Visions Of Lai Tsi" (Animal Friends)

"The Visions of Lai Tsi" also titled "Animal Friends", was created from a watercolor combining Barbara's dreams with research in the library. It depicts a religious story of the Spiritual Master Lai Tsi meditating in China at the time of Buddha. The story tells that he had been very wealthy as a child and gave up his inheritance for a spiritual life and meditated for 15 years in a cave in Northern China. The animals he is surrounded with took care of him and brought him foods and nectars of plants as he meditated. The lion licked his brow with his rough tongue and all creatures cared for him. This painting shows the actual plants and animals and insects that were living in that area in that time in history, which are native to Northern China.
"Animal Friends" a watercolor painting by Artist, Barbara Steinberg has recently won an "Honorable Mention" in the NAVS (National Anti-Vivisection Society's) 18th Annual Art for Animals Classic. "Animal Friends" represents a creative and personal expression of the goal of the program which is:
"To illustrate NAVS philosophy of respect and compassion for our fellow creatures through Art. Individuals can and do make a difference toward helping end animal suffering, and art can serve as a platform for awareness and activism in a way words cannot. Its voice, in concert with those of other caring individuals, is intrumental in their effort to continue expanding and developing programs that will help find humane solutions to human problems..."

"Kula Botanical Garden"

"Kula Botanical Garden" was painted on location. In the gardens Orchid House, the Grape Rose and Christmas Cactus, all in bloom, depict a Christmas scene; and through the windows is the Christmas Tree Farm, also part of the Kula Botanical Garden. This painting took 198 hours to complete. The artist says gardens are among her favorite places to be.

"Tropical Fruit Reflections"

"Tropical Fruit Reflections" This still-life shows the brightly colored tropical fruits of Maui: the golden papaya, yellow-green star fruit, lime and banana all grown in the artists garden and painted live on a mirror surface where the fruits reflections are painted below them in a realistic technique in watercolor.

"Orchids and Emerald Pitcher"

"Orchids and Emerald Pitcher" was painted on location in a classical, realistic style, and is another in my Chinese flower pot series with its Oriental design. The transparent teal pitcher shines with the light reflecting on it and the subtle light of the green from the pitcher reflects on the background and on the other objects. This is all about light, clean color and details on the Chinese pot. The classical look, the lace, recorders and the conch shell add to its old-world charm.

"Auntie's Potted Orchids"

"Aunties Potted Orchids" Auntie Barbara grew these orchids on her lanai and painted them from life. She loves to paint her flowers in these whimsical Chinese pots at home with her seashell collection, some borrowed from friends. The flowers are live and by the time the painting is completed they have dropped their petals but she has captured them eternally in her treasured watercolors that last a lifetime.
