ORIGIN OF FATHERS DAY

Father's Day, celebrated each 3rd Sunday in June, was originally concieved of as a day for children to honor their Fathers. A woman by the name of Sonora Smart Dodd thought of the idea for Father's Day while listening to a Mother's Day sermon in 1909. Having been raised by her father after her mother died, Sonora wanted her father to know how special he was to her. It was her father that made all the parental sacrifices during her upbringing that in her eyes demonstrated all the most cherished qualities of fatherhood namely courage, selflessness, and loving guidance. Sonora's father was born in June, so she chose to hold the first Father's Day celebration in Spokane, Washington on the 19th of June, 1910. In 1924 President Calvin Coolidge proclaimed the third Sunday in June as Father's Day with roses being the official Father's Day flower.
(~A red rose to be worn for a living father and a white rose if the father has passed on~)
Today, Father's Day is celebrated as a special day to honor fathers as well as the paternal qualities in all persons. Historical records indicate that the most popular gifts for Dad ranked by sales volume are: shirts, ties, followed closely by electric razors. Perhaps most telling of Dad's perpetual role in the eyes of their children, is the fact that more collect calls are recorded on Father's Day then on any other day of the year. However you choose to celebrate Father's Day, may it be safe, give thanks, and hug a Father...

The strength of a mountain, The majesty of a tree,
The warmth of a summer sun, The calm of a quiet sea...
The generous soul of nature, The comforting arm of night,
The wisdom of the ages, The power of the eagle's flight...
The joy of a morning in spring, The faith of a mustard seed,
The patience of eternity, The depth of a family need...
Combine all these qualities, Whether or not all of them he had.
And take the time to love and honor him, Cause he'll always be your Dad...

MEMORIES OF DAD'S FAVORITE ONE LINERS
( A Collection of memorable one-line sayings is dedicated to my dear Dad and Dad's I have known. How I miss hearing these... well most of these... )
Go ask your Mother...
Be home early...
When I was your age...
Now you watch over your brothers and sisters while I'm gone...
Always say please and thank you...
You call that a haircut...?
"Hey" is for horses...
I had to walk two miles to school each day in the freezing snow...
Finish everything on your plate. You know there are kid's starving in China...
That's not a tear, I have something in my eye...
Were you raised in a barn...?
You didn't beat me. I let you win...
Your eyes are bigger than your stomach...
What do you think I am, a bank...?
Now you listen to me, Buster..!
A little hard work never hurt anyone...
What, is he on drugs or something..?
There is no Generation Gap...
Get your elbows off the table...
This will hurt me a lot more than it hurts you...
Turn off those lights...
What, do you think I am made of money...?
You call that noise "Music...?"
Let's say a prayer for a safe trip...
We're not lost, I'm just not sure where we are...
As long as you live under my roof, you'll live by my rules...
I'll tell you why. Because I said so. That's why...
If I've told you once, I've told you a thousand times...
Now let's say grace...
You know, your mother worries about you...
I'm not just talking to hear my own voice you know...
Why don't you go out and get a real job..!
I don't want you kids watching that crap on TV...
Turn off the "Boob-tube...!"
Did you finish all of your homework...?
Eat it..! It's good for you...
You"ll never make any money in that band...
Don't forget to check the oil...
If your friend jumped off a bridge would you do it too...?
If I didn't love you so much I wouldn't punish you, I'd let you do whatever you wanted...
You kids have things so easy nowadays...
Move it or Lose it...!
I had to go through the depression you know...
Don't take any wooden nickels...
How many times do I have to pound that into your head...?
Don't make me come over there...
I'm not lost, it's just over the next hill...
As long as you tried your hardest, that's all that matters...
If if's and but's were candy and nuts, then we'd all have a merry Christmas...
Don't believe everything you hear...
What part of NO don't you understand...?
I don't care what other people are doing...
You're not leaving this house dressed like that...
Didn't your teacher learn you anything..?
What are they teaching you in that school anyway..?
You can marry a rich guy just as easily as you can a poor guy...
Men are like buses. Just wait on the corner and another one will come along...
Do you hear me talking to you..?
Don't you use that tone of voice with me...
Am I talking to a brick wall..?
If I catch you doing that one more time, I'll...
Two wrongs don't make a right...
Don't make me stop the car..!
What did I just get finished telling you...
I love you, son...
I love you, princess...
You know you're always gonna to be Daddy's little girl...
Now I stretch my hands over the ocean and over the top of your head and I give you my blessing...

"...O Compassionate God..."
"O Compassionate God..! Thanks be to Thee for Thou hast awakened and made me conscious. Thou hast given me a seeing eye and favoured me with a hearing ear. Thou hast led me to Thy kingdom and guided me to Thy path. Thou hast shown me the right way and caused me to enter the Ark of Deliverance. O God..! Keep me steadfast and make me firm and staunch. Protect me from violent tests and preserve and shelter me in the strongly fortified fortress of Thy Covenant and Testament. Thou art the Powerful, Thou art the Seeing, Thou art the Hearing. O Thou the Compassionate God..! Bestow upon me a heart which like unto a glass, may be illumined with the light of Thy love, and confer upon me thoughts which may change this work into a rose-garden through the outpourings of heavenly grace. Thou art the Compassionate, the Merciful..."
"Thou art the Great Beneficent God..."
